Overview

Lean Manufacturing, which is also known as the Toyota Production System, is a complex manufacturing system that took Toyota about 15 years to develop. Although many view Lean Manufacturing as a system to drive out waste, the ultimate purpose of implementing Lean Manufacturing is to dramatically improve bottom line profitability. The lower cost structure that comes from driving out waste allows companies to be more competitive and improve their revenues, while the focus on customer needs serves to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty, producing secondary revenue and profit improvement impacts.
