Characteristics of a good measurement and reporting system:

  • Identifies and highlights the key elements of organizational performance at all levels in the organisation.
  • Links high level performance measures down to those aspects (“key drivers”) that have the greatest impact on performance.
  • Improves communication and accountability within the organization regarding performance and the teamwork needed to achieve it.

  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) for each of the business processes.
  • Identify who needs what kind of information, at which frequency, and in what format.
  • Construct the relevant performance reporting mechanisms.
  • Provide coaching to all relevant employees on a closed-loop management control system that ensures that appropriate corrective actions are taken if the actual performance deviates from the desired target.
