ITIL, ISO20000

Overview

The IT Infrastructure Library developed by the Office of Government Compliance (OGC) in the UK, now formalized in ISO20000:2005-Part 1 is the global standard for IT service management. It provides best practice guidelines for IT service management.

Scope And Deliverables

In order to be awarded a certificate of registration for your IT Service Management System, you must pass an assessment by an external auditor to the standard ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005 Part 1. Formal registration of your ITSMS delivers a number of valuable benefits:

  • Customer Focus – Your customers can feel confident that IT Services are meeting their needs as users. Using service level agreements as a foundation, resources can be concentrated on these targeted delivery areas.
  • Cost Savings – The cost of responding to, investigating and resolving IT incidents can be significant. Registration can help create operational cost savings as the implementation of an ITSMS often leads to a much more proactive approach to problem management. Investigating the root causes of actual and potential incidents and putting processes in place ensures their quick solution and even prevention.
  • Effective Supplier Management – Registration specifically covers the interface between the service provider and any third-party suppliers of services. Effective supplier management can help with the provision of seamless, quality services while avoiding uncertainty and risk by clearly defining their roles.
  • Commitment – Registration helps to ensure and demonstrate commitment of the IT function in delivering services in accordance in industry-wide accepted best practice. This can also be a key source of competitive advantage for those organizations providing outsourced IT Services.

  • The guys from SatiStar did more in one week than we were able to do in 6 months.

  • Achieving ISO registration was far less onerous than we thought, our employees really rallied to the cause. The registration effort really brought us closer together as a team, and SatiStar really came through for us when we needed them.

  • We started this process a year ago with Mickey helping us create a spaghetti map of our processes on the whiteboard, and then his team guided us through their streamlining methodology and got us to where we are today. Our processes now look nothing like the spaghetti map – and we’re much more efficient today

  • This projected cycle time reduction of over 80% annual cost savings amounting to over 3% of sales, one-time savings of roughly $10 million, and working capital reduction of roughly $30 million really have us excited!

  • An outstanding success with Motorola’s vendor audit! What made this an exceptional achievement is that it typically takes 4 to 5 attempts to pass this audit. SatiStar’s expertise made it easy to avoid all the extra attempts.
